outcropandstudentssmall.jpg
Database of physical and chemical properties and thresholds relevant to shale gas

Data collection effort on the chemical, physical and toxicity properties as well as permitted concentration levels in drinking water of chemicals that are frequently used in the fracking process

Hydro-geo-chemo-mechanical facies characterisation of seven main EU shale basins

The main features of the EU shale deposits which relate directly to shale gas extraction within the major basins in Europe will be synthesised.

Marcellus shale water and air quality data set

As a result of several research projects over the last decade an extensive regional air emission data set is available for the Marcellus shale.

UK coal bed methane composition (from Dart Energy’s Airth field)

Isotopic data obtained from UK Coal Bed Methane (from Dart Energy’s Airth field).

UK shale gas composition from Cuadrilla’s Bowland shale operations

Isotopic data obtained from UK shale gas (from Cuadrilla’s Bowland shale operations).

UK Produced water composition (from Dart Energy’s Airth field)

Existing produced water data from UK coal bed methane and shale gas exploration activities to determine how water produced in UK compares and contrasts to comprehensive datasets in the USA, particularly the Marcellus shales.

Mine water data sets (literature search)

Mine water data from UK activities to determine how water produced in UK compares and contrasts to comprehensive datasets in the USA, particularly the Marcellus shales.

USA Produced water data sets from CBM & shale gas

A robust data set of baseline information exists for the Marcellus play of the Appalachian basin, makes for a valuable comparison to potential EU shale development. Over 10,000 shale wells are now drilled in this basin, one of only two in the world (both in the U.S.) that offer this level of baseline sampling for both water quality and air emissions.

Batch reaction experiments to replicate produced water

A series of batch reaction experiments using selected UK and European shale samples exposed to brine at reservoir temperature, allowing determination of the composition of produced water which will arise from those formations.

Passive seismic data from the UK

Seismic noise data from Preese Hall, UK, acquired by and belongs to the BGS.

Published gas production curves

Publicly available gas production curves from the US are available at: http://www.depreportingservices.state.pa.us/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?%2fOil_Gas%2fOil_Gas_Well_Production

Publicly available gas production curves from the UK are available at: http://data-ogauthority.opendata.arcgis.com/pages/production

FEP database

A database of features, events and processes as well as hazards, impacts and controls for assisting in the identification of critical combinations of subsurface geology, operational practice of hydraulic fracturing and associated hazard and risk assessment for the natural and human environment.

Source characterisation data from tracer experiments

Report on artificial tracer signal modelling and parameter sensitivity analysis
